THE AMHARIC LANGUAGE
In the country of Ethiopia, more than 70 languages are spoken. Oromo is the most widely spoken, however, Amharic serves as the official language. While the Amharic people make up just over a quarter of the country’s population, more than 16 million people speak this as their first language and another 4 million as their second. Amharic is most popular language in the Horn of Africa.
Immigrants across the world also speak Amharic in countries such as Israel, and Washington, D.C. in the United States.
