The Mongolian Language
The Mongolian language consists of several closely related languages and dialects. The official language of Mongolia, however, is Khalkha Mongolian. Spoken by more than 5 million people, Mongolian speakers also reside in China, parts of Russia, Tibet, and the United States.
As a written language, Mongolia’s proximity to Russia influenced its adaptation of Russian Cyrillic script. It’s also unique because Mongolian is the only script in the world that’s written vertically and from left to right.
