The Odia Language
Designated as a Classical Language in India, and the official language of Odisha, Odia is spoken by 50 million people on a global scale. 82% of the population of Odisha, or 35 million people, are native language speakers, and another 4 million are second-language speakers. As a written language, Odia script developed over 1,000 years ago; in its modern form, it was typeset by Christian missionaries in 1836. Outside of India, there are Odia-speaking communities in the United States, Canada, Burma, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, the Middle East, and several other countries. As of 2020, both Microsoft and Google support text translation of the Odia language.
