The Russian Language
Globally, nearly 265 million people speak Russian. It is the official language of Russia and over 160 million speakers in the country consider it their native language.
Russian is a Slavik language that uses the Cyrillic alphabet for writing. Because Russia is the most influential and populous country that makes use of Cyrillic, many attribute it to being the Russian script. Other than in its homeland, Russian language speakers have made communities in Belarus, Poland, Ukraine, Finland, and many other countries.
