Spanish is the first language of about 483 million people worldwide and a second language to another 50 million. It is the world’s second-most spoken native language. Mexico has the largest number of native Spanish speakers. Spanish is one of the five primary Romance languages and is the most widely spoken of the Romance languages. Pronunciation and usage of spoken Spanish varies among countries, however, regional differences are not so significant as to make the language unintelligible to Spanish speakers from different areas.
